India's bygone era of maharajas, nawabs and nizams was a time of limitless grandeur. The world was opening up and travelling was becoming more viable – and, for the elite beautiful trunks were the accoutrement of choice. Such opulence extending even to luggage options, today serves as the inspiration for a one-of-kind venture launched in Jaipur Four years ago.
Trunks Company - the vision of brothers Paritosh and Priyank Mehta, creates luxury trunks that no longer travel with their owners but instead function as novel pieces for contemporary spaces.
INGENIOUS DESIGN
Each trunk made by the company reflects its core values: to be unique, discreet and authentic, and to always make use of the finest handicraft. To ensure excellence in each design, Trunks Company's team meticulously handpicks raw materials from the finest sources available worldwide, and every aspect of the subsequent process is handled with a singular focus and care.
"There was no precedent for what we are doing in India, so we've had to train our craftsmen to the highest standards," says Paritosh. "Each creation is an amalgam of ingenious design, personalized touches and the old-world craftsmanship we are so inspired by."
Trunks Company also offers bespoke pieces, in which the company's gifted craftsmen fashion made-to-measure trunks based on research into the client's lifestyle, profession and preferences. The client is involved at every stage, ensuring a service that is as enjoyable as it is productive. "We celebrate luxury," says Paritosh, "but make it functional, contemporary and personal to each customer." Based on the merit of its art, the company's reputation has spread internationally among connoisseurs, collectors and those with an eye for excellent art and lifestyle pieces. Travelling with a steamer trunk may no longer be feasible, but living with a Trunks Company creation evokes a long-ago age of luxury travel.
